2016 Recap

And just like that another year is over. I won't lie this year seemed much longer than others, and it was a rollercoaster for myself politically and personally. While I'm eager to start the New Year (or go back to November and have people vote with their conscious with what they know now) a little recap of all the good which happened this year is much needed!

Became a licensed EMT // This has been a goal of mine since high school, but I never found the time to take the course and really commit. However over the spring semester I was able to adjust my academic schedule so I'd be able to take the EMT courses at my local community college. After 10hrs a class a week, hospital clinicals, ambulance ride alongs, hours of studying, two life changing exams and, 11 credits later I became certified.

Started a new job // After becoming licensed I began working at a hospital in the city, as an ER medic. 12hr shifts, 3-5 days a week. They're tough and challenging shifts but, I'm so much better for it. Each day I see people having the worst days of their lives and I've learned so much from them and the wonderful team I see everyday. I've gained more compassion for others, understanding that everyone has their own battles and, became a person who judges less and helps more.

Decided to attend Graduate School for Neuroscience // This was a big one for myself. I always thought the plan would be, undergrad then med school But over the years during undergrad, various internships and, job opportunities my passion for science that's not solely medicine has grown. I've found that I love research and I want to pursue it along with medicine. So when an opportunity to attend graduate school came up I couldn't pass on it. So here I am working full time and attending school full time, and loving it.

Met a guy // Another big one for myself. While my dating life over the years has been anything but dormant. I could never find someone I wanted to commit to, there was always something off. But over the summer I met a guy who I ended up really liking. He's someone I always enjoy spending time with and miss even after spending a whole day together. He makes me very very happy.

Reached my fitness goal // I've always been underweight and thin. But I've also always been athletic and had a good diet so it was something I didn't care too much about. However, after having multiple low blood pressure episodes, I knew it was time to make an effort to gain the weight. So I got a personal trainer and began lifting weights. It took about 7 months, but I've managed to gain 10lbs. I am so much stronger than before.

Made new friends // College is weird, you find your group and you stick with them so over the past four years I've had my group and loved them dearly and still do. However, post graduation many of us moved and spread ourselves all over the country. So many people moved this year, I found it overwhelming honestly. But, I've learned how to be a good friend maintaining friendships over a long distance and made many new ones through work, mutual friends, blogging and more!

Achieved my reading goal // Those who know me, know I read a lot. I always have a book in my bag and I'm always reading at least two books at any given time. My goal for 2016 was to read 54 books in 54 weeks. And I did it! Some weeks I read more than others, but I did in fact hit the goal. In the coming weeks I plan on posting the list of all my reads!

Voted for the first female on the presidential ticket // As someone who considers politics a passion, who has volunteered for democrats since the age of two (Clinton Gore 96!) the results of this election was more than disappointing. It was heartbreaking and fear instilling but, this was the FIRST election where a woman was on the presidential ticket. A woman who served for her entire adult life for the good of the United States committing her life to help others. I am proud that I was able to vote for Hillary Clinton in November and it's something I'm going to enjoy telling my children about hopefully in a world where a female on the ballot isn't a big deal.

Relaunched and began monetizing my blog // If you've been with me for a while, you've seen subtle changes with this blog. It's gone from a personal journal, to creative outlet, to a full on blog blog. This year I even joined a blogger community and attended blogger events expanding out to my blogger community. I've been welcomed so warmly and I appreciate it so much!

Pet tons of puppies // And finally the biggest highlight of 2016. PUPPIES! I'm obsessed with dogs, I sometimes cry when I see them and often get lost because I end up following dogs instead of going where I'm supposed to go. This year I pet tons and tons of puppies. From service pups in training, to the pups at the shelter to the pups at the puppy farm (yes it exists!). It's been a good year for pups.

What's something good that happened to you in 2016? Comment and share!
